IT-/OT integration in production

How IT/OT is revolutionising production

Digital, integrated and connected

The future of production

What does sustainable, efficient and flexible production look like? One thing is clear: the days of clipboards and pens are finally over. The future is digital.

This is widely accepted today. However, the answer to the question of how to implement digital production and what is most important for one's own company is less clear. A constant stream of new technologies, such as GenAI, the Industrial Metaverse or AR / VR, is expanding the range of solutions and thus also the complexity. Many companies are looking for an experienced digitalisation partner to help them set the right priorities. From a large number of successfully digitalised production processes, we know that in order for innovative digitalisation technologies to reach their full potential in production, IT and OT systems must be integrated and data must be available at the push of a button. This makes connectivity, IT-/OT integration and close collaboration between IT and production the most important tasks.

When a suit meets safety shoes

Many companies have implemented initial use cases with technologies such as AI, but have not been able to scale them across the entire production network. Why is that?

Data is distributed decentrally and cannot be easily interpreted because, for example, it is labelled differently, has a different timestamp or a different unit. A proliferation of systems has emerged over the years: because production has to keep running, problems have often been solved in the past by individually programmed software tools or hastily procured software systems. The result: a multitude of shop floor applications that are not networked with each other and are based on outdated software technologies.

High process and maintenance costs, security and failure risks, and a lack of scalability are creating an urgent need for change. That is why most companies are working to transfer modern IT principles to production and, at the same time, to create consistency from the field level to the ERP or to the cloud. This will only work if IT puts on its safety shoes and production is willing to break new ground.

If the following challenges sound familiar, then get in touch:

  • Every plant is different: There are different machines, different processes and different software solutions.
  • Old is next to new: Machines with the most modern controls are in use, as are ancient systems without NC controls.
  • ROI versus strategy: Many technologies form the basis for the cost-effective realisation of individual use cases, but initially only cost money.
  • Agile IT meets production that has to run: Historically, IT and OT were organisationally separate, and collaboration still doesn't always run smoothly.
  • Cloud-native, data mash, TIA Portal and bottleneck-oriented control: Who keeps the overview and translates when everyone is speaking a different language?

The answer: adesso!

IT-/OT Integration

We make it easy!

We know the concerns of production inside out and can do IT at the same time. We wear safety shoes – and a suit (or hoodie).

To make digital production a reality together with you, we have developed the adesso-IT-/OT architecture and implemented it for our customers:

It makes no difference to us whether cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure or open-source on-premise solutions are used. We use what best suits your production system and IT skills.

IT-/OT integration is the most important task for digitalised production. Only in this way will Industry 4.0 become a reality! Together, we create an environment in which IT and engineering speak the same language and pull in the same direction!

But we don't just support you on the technical level on your way to an integrated IT-/OT landscape, we also support you organisationally: interdisciplinary work is the key to success and thus to the digital transformation of production.
