Development partnership for shop floor digitalisation

Leading supplier to the semiconductor industry

Project

Together with a company in the semiconductor industry, adesso is gradually digitalising the shop floor. The company was facing enormous challenges that required an innovative solution.

adesso worked closely with the company to develop a seamless IT and OT integration and implemented customised software solutions to increase both stability and efficiency in production. With a mix of onshore and nearshore resources, as well as 190 experts, not only was the digitalisation of the shop floor advanced, but the production processes were also sustainably optimised.

Goals

  • Extremely high demand, strong growth, shorter development cycles and increasing product complexity
  • Production costs > €300 million and manufacturing times > 1 year, rework and rejects in production are therefore critical
  • Extremely high demands on stability, reliability and adherence to specifications when using the required assembly and process software
  • No consistent integration and automation from machine and robot controls to SCADA and MES systems
  • Insufficient resources in the IT department to implement the digitalisation of the shop floor and machines.

Concept

  • Development of co-creation scrum teams with the customer for the seamless integration of IT and OT systems
  • Software development for Microsoft-based applications
  • Support from 190 experts: scrum masters, product owners, requirements engineers, software architects and software developers
  • Mix of onshore and nearshore resources
  • Strategic alignment and operational implementation for faster provision of individual process and assembly software
  • Industry experts not only provide support for software development, but also for the further development and stabilisation of production processes (troubleshooting)

Technology

  • Shorter time to market for end products
  • Increased output
  • Cross-process data handling has reduced the time and costs associated with separate rework
  • Tolerance violations can now be automatically corrected in the subsequent process and joining step by means of data-supported adjustments
  • Reduction of isolated software solutions (>800 individual applications)
  • Modularisation and use of synergy effects in further software development through a new organisational form (tribe)
