Together with adesso, vaylens took on a complex challenge. After the takeover by the KOSTAL Group, Compleo and vaylens became two independent brands under the umbrella of the family-owned company. While Compleo Charging Solutions GmbH and Co. KG focuses on the hardware business for optimising EV charging technology, vaylens focuses on providing software solutions that simplify the operation of charging infrastructure, making it monetisable and efficiently managing the billing of charging processes. To achieve this, the different backends that have been used so far are to be combined and made usable independently of hardware and manufacturers.

Backend consolidation
vaylens GmbH
Project
Goals
- Focus on a future-proof, hardware-independent e-mobility backend based on a scalable roaming microservice architecture in the cloud.
- Provision of the platform as a SaaS for the monitoring and management of charging stations and charging processes, as well as their monetisation for various charge point operators (CPO), technicians and value-added resellers.
- Migrating mandates and their charging stations to the target platform in live operation.
- High-performance processing of relevant processes, in particular for charging in (semi-)public spaces via the platform. This includes authorisation, billing in accordance with calibration law, integration of roaming, barrier-free payment and a receipt portal.
- Services for various user groups, from energy suppliers to employers and private users.
- Integration of payment terminals with billing that complies with calibration law
- Dynamic pricing, even when roaming.
adesso services
- Maintenance and operation of the former wallbe solution for monitoring and managing charging stations and charging processes
- Support with migration: live migration of clients and their charging stations to the target platform
- Expansion of roaming interfaces: Update of roaming with Hubject and OCPI to the latest protocol versions – in the role of CPO and also in the role of e-mobility service provider (EMSP), support for dynamic pricing, improved scalability, maintainability and performance
Technologies and concepts used
- Scalable Java/Spring Boot microservice architecture
- Kubernetes cluster
- Relational, graph and document database technologies depending on the application
- Modern JavaScript and Angular web technologies for B2B portals and apps
- Access for EV drivers via iOS and Android apps
- Integration with the Hubject Roaming Platform and integration of various peer-to-peer roaming connections via OCPI
- Integration of various payment service providers
- Synchronous and asynchronous communication patterns including IoT specifics (REST, HiveMQ/RabbitMQ and MQTT) depending on the use case
