Training year 2023: 57 new trainees and students join adesso

These days, businesses compete worldwide for young talents. Attractive training programmes and content that interest young people allow companies to win over up-and-coming specialists, who are in short supply. Because professionally oriented training plays a crucial role in its efforts to foster new talent, adesso, one of the top IT service providers in the German-speaking world, is welcoming 57 trainees and students from cooperative education programmes as the 2023/24 training year gets under way – a new record.

According to recent figures from the digital association Bitkom, there are 137,000 job vacancies in the German IT sector. And that number is growing. The IT service provider adesso focuses on fostering new talent to help counteract the increasing shortage of skilled labour. By doing so, it gives a large number of trainees and students the opportunity to start their careers in the IT industry every year. In 2023, 57 school-leavers and graduates have chosen this path and are starting their vocational training or cooperative educational programme at adesso. They include 33 application development specialists and four system integration specialists, as well as six commercial office management trainees. Despite being based across Germany, most of them will work at adesso’s headquarters in Dortmund. The company’s offices in Aachen, Bonn, Cologne, Frankfurt, Karslruhe, Munich, Nuremberg, Paderborn, Reutlingen, Stralsund, Stuttgart and Walldorf also offer vocational training.

With the 2023/24 training year now set to start, adesso employs 185 apprentices, trainees and students enrolled in cooperative education programmes, as well as 692 working students. “I am happy to see that so many young talents have once again chosen adesso as the place to start their careers this year,” says Kristina Gerwert, the adesso Executive Board member in charge of human resources. “They will grow both professionally and personally by learning a lot from their experienced colleagues and by discovering their own strengths.”

The company’s commitment to young professionals is just one way of improving its odds of finding qualified applicants for job vacancies. adesso also offers all its employees continuing professional development opportunities, with an in-house training catalogue of more than 350 courses ranging from in-person and online training to self-learning concepts. For Gerwert, such formal learning options are just one aspect. “Lifelong learning and a desire to explore new topics are elementary for us at adesso,” she says, describing adesso’s vision and expectations. “That’s because the growth of our company is directly related to the personal growth of each and every employee. We create an atmosphere in which everyone can play to their strengths. Among other things, our excellent track record in the Great Place to Work employer competition shows that we are succeeding in doing so. We have won first place in both the ITK industry rankings and the cross-industry competition twice in a row.”
