Federal Interior Minister learns about adesso’s commitment to digital identities

Nancy Faeser, German Federal Minister of the Interior and Community, visited adesso at the Smart Country Convention in Berlin. The minister took the opportunity to learn about the IT service provider’s activities in the area of digital identities. In 2024, adesso plans to launch a new eID service on the market that complements the BundID account offered by the government.

Digital identities play an essential role in the continued digitalisation of governments and smart cities. They are a simple and secure way for people to identify themselves in transactions or dealings with authorities online. A solution with the required technology already exists in Germany in the form of the electronic identity function (eID) in ID cards. However, it has not been widely used to date. Starting next year, adesso’s new product will expand the choice of eID solutions. As an identification service provider certified in accordance with the German ID Card Act (Personalausweisgesetz), adesso will operate its own eID server for the service, which is aimed at the private sector in particular.

New eID service is the key to smart cities

“adesso’s eID service is the key to building smart cities,” says Jörg Schröder, CFO and Executive Board member of adesso SE. “The solution, which is designed for the open market, ideally complements the BundID account created for public institutions. Our goal is to use this as a foundation for developing a smart city ecosystem that acts as a central link between the public and private sector. We believe that the eID will provide significant benefits to individuals, businesses and government.”

By making the service available, adesso wants to encourage greater use of the eID in Germany. The solution harnesses the latest technological approaches and could conceivably be offered on an open-source basis.

adesso presents wide-ranging smart city ecosystem portfolio

In addition to the eID service, adesso is showcasing numerous other solutions for realising smart city ecosystems at the Smart Country Convention. They contribute to making tomorrow’s cities and regions climate-neutral and sustainable, as well as connected, mobile, people-centric and liveable. The IT service provider’s portfolio includes solutions for creating digital citizens’ offices and citizens’ apps, as well as for using augmented reality to promote civic participation. In the area of mobility, adesso is exhibiting a traffic management system optimised by edge AI, and in the energy management field, the company is presenting the digital twin of the adesso subsidiary urban energy, known as ZeroC.

The Smart Country Convention is being held up to and including Thursday, 9 November, in hub27 at the Messe Berlin exhibition grounds. Visitors are welcome to come and learn about adesso’s entire range of products and services at booth 304.
