With success: The offer for adesso employees to better deal with complexity, which was launched in the second year of Corona, was able to position itself on the shortlist of the three best offers (Top 3 in the categories “Benefits & Incentives and “Well Being”).

adesso designed and implemented the adesso MIND programme in this extraordinary year, in which the demands placed on the workforce intensified sharply as a result of the pandemic. The programme offers a combination of methods, tools, and training from neuroscience, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), and information technology. The aim is to improve people’s creative problem-solving skills and levels of concentration and to enhance their emotionally intelligent relationship management. In addition, the resilience and health of the employees is consistently supported over the long term. At the moment, the pandemic has put an additional strain on employees and their well-being. Recent studies have shown a sharp rise in cases of depression and anxiety around the world.

adesso MIND combines methods, tools and trainings from IT, neuroscience and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

The support offered by adesso MIND ranges from helpful information and case studies, such as podcasts, the free use of meditation apps and a range of offers promoting exercise and healthy activities through to several weeks of MBSR training and further education with external coaches. All of this is designed to ensure that adesso employees have effective tools to hand and an individualised approach to incorporating mindfulness and well-being into their everyday life.

Dirk Pothen, member of the adesso Executive Board responsible for HR, explains the objective of this special HR programme: “In our world of work, with its complex IT project environments, the demands on our employees are becoming more and more dynamic and complex. By using mindfulness and managing awareness, our employees can complete their tasks more efficiently and become more resilient and robust in our VUCA environment. With adesso MIND, we are offering a toolkit for successfully managing this complexity. The plan is to use it to further boost the commitment and stamina of the teams and prevent or at least reduce stress. The programme is a key part of our corporate health management and essential to our understanding of a corporate culture, which places the well-being and satisfaction of employees front and centre.”

Dirk Pothen, HR board member at adesso: “With adesso MIND provides us with a toolbox that enables our employees to deal with complexity better and more successfully.”

Co-founder of adesso MIND is Prof. Dr Rüdiger Striemer, who was co-chairman of the Executive Board until 2015. Today, Striemer is responsible for the adesso locations in Berlin, Budapest and Helsinki, and professor of business information technology at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau. He has already written a book about his own stress-related illness a few years ago and therefore knows: “When people have the mechanisms to live mindfully and attentively, then that is a huge improvement. At adesso, we want to make sure our employees have the tools and equipment they need to stop them getting into such overly stressful situations in the first place. We feel this year's nomination for the HR Excellence Award is a nice confirmation of our approach.”

Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Striemer is co-initiator of adesso MIND: “If people have mechanisms to deal with themselves consciously and mindfully, then this is very helpful.
