Handball on the Web: DHB and adesso launch digital campaign

Deutscher Handballbund (DHB), the official German handball federation, is going on the offensive. A refreshing overhaul of the DHB.de website will help to strengthen the ties of fans and members with the sport of handball and attract new players. The organisation is being supported by adesso. The German IT service provider will relaunch the association’s website, DHB.de, using the modern open source content management system Drupal. As a digitalisation partner, adesso will also provide advice and assistance with developing an integrated platform strategy for connecting and standardising the association’s current online presence. The relaunch of the DHB.de website is scheduled for the end of 2024. The new platform strategy is to be fully implemented by the 2027 Men’s Handball World Championship in Germany.

The DHB is pursuing a clear objective with its website relaunch. The aim is to raise awareness of handball and attract more fans and members. A modern approach to communication that is tailored towards the target audience plays an essential role, with a more professional approach to digital offerings for an enhanced fan experience. The DHB intends to achieve its goal with the help of an overarching platform strategy for its online presence, among other things. The association’s website, DHB.de, will play a key role in this. As part of the relaunch, adesso will make the website more accessible and modern for a more consistent user experience. Improved usability and a more structured interface will make it easier for old and new fans, members, players and clubs to find information and services faster. As a central anchor point, the new website is intended to convey the brand and values of the DHB while helping to better achieve communicative and sales objectives.

In parallel to the work on the website, adesso and the DHB will develop an integrated strategy for digital communication that covers a status quo analysis, including the development of a hierarchy for the platforms used (such as Handball.net, the online academy and the referee portal) and an overarching content strategy. In future, the content strategy should enable staff to deliver messages to the desired target groups more efficiently and uniformly across multiple channels.

“Optimum interaction between our communication channels and portals is essential if we want to achieve our objectives,” says Thomas Zimmermann, Director of Marketing and Communication at Deutscher Handballbund. “From our point of view, adesso is the perfect partner for the implementation of our integrated platform strategy. The team impressed us in the preparatory workshops with their know-how, industry expertise and strong identification with handball.”

Oliver Kowalke, Head of the Sports Line of Business at adesso, says: “As fans and experts, we are very excited about the task of relaunching the DHB website and developing an integrated platform strategy together. What motivates us in particular is that the new website will help make it possible to reach more fans and members for a great sport like handball.”
