The global media markets have been in flux for years now. Advances in digitalisation have brought significant new requirements for the IT systems used in the online segment. Deutsche Welle has turned to the software experts at IT service provider adesso for support, building on the existing fruitful partnership between them.
Modernisation of dw.com and learngerman.dw.com sites
For the relaunch of the website that Deutsche Welle provides in 32 languages worldwide, adesso is to provide support for the modernisation of the portal, including the integrated apps and editorial systems.
DW provides free German language classes at learngerman.dw.com, helping people learn German as a foreign language on their own with multimedia learning formats at various levels. adesso is to assist in further developing the German language learning portal in terms of both functionality and the newly created corporate design. The portal is available as a responsive website and as a smartphone app, featuring videos, audio, and podcasts in a current total of 12 languages. Alongside software development, adesso will also be providing consulting services and contributing its experience with building digital learning platforms. Personalised additional features for the rapidly growing number of registered users will be another area of special focus.
Jürgen Hasselmann, Head of Product Support and Coordination at Deutsche Welle, comments: “Especially in countries where freedom of the press is restricted, our content can reach users via digital platforms. adesso will be helping us there with its expertise. We will also be relying on adesso for support in integrating state-of-the-art technologies for evading censorship so our high-quality journalism is accessible even in autocratic countries.”
