adesso ventures invests in Paderborn-based AI start-up acto

By stepping up its investment in the start-up acto, adesso ventures is underlining its confidence in the business model of the active decision intelligence provider from north-western Germany. acto is part of the existing portfolio of the adesso Group’s venture capital arm and raised around EUR 3.7 million in a recent seed financing round. In addition to adesso ventures, investors also include capital providers specialising in technology, such as 468 Capital and Cusp Capital.

With its artificial intelligence (AI)-based decision-making software, acto solves one of the central problems facing companies: making better, proactive sales decisions in as short a time as possible. acto’s AI solution is an attractive product for growth-driven SMEs in particular, enabling these businesses to use inventory data cost-effectively and profitably to seize unrealised business potential. With the capital raised in this round of financing, acto has set itself the goal of advancing its AI technology and driving forward the establishment of its own sales organisation.

Levelling up sales efficiency

The shortage of skilled labour is affecting countless areas of the business world, including sales. Companies need to achieve more with fewer resources if they want to drive growth. “Unfortunately, 80 % of all insights generated in sales today are wasted due to inefficient processes and the growing flood of data,” says Pascal Salmen, Co-Founder and Managing Director of acto. “Companies actually lose up to 15 % of their revenues per year as a result. With our AI-based decision-making software, we help sales teams quickly spot anomalies, risks and opportunities in customer data and use these insights effectively.”

acto ensures that companies make better use of their data by breaking down data silos and transforming the information they contain into actionable insights. The solution developed by the start-up enriches internal company data with external web information, provides customer-centric recommended action plans and supports sales teams in implementing these suggestions thanks to smart workflows. Instead of spending hours on search and evaluation processes, employees can concentrate directly on their core areas of expertise and promising sales activities. This leads to greater efficiency and satisfaction in the sales teams, we well as higher turnover for the companies.

Potential for further business cases

Companies from traditional sectors such as wholesale and logistics benefit particularly strongly from acto. It already counts well-known players from these sectors, including Rhenus Logistics and Schäfer Shop, among its clients. In addition to sales, acto also plans to support other business areas, such as warehouse management and procurement, with AI-based decision-making in the future.

“With its solution, acto is addressing the acute and worsening shortage of skilled labour – a problem that will increasingly affect German SMEs in the coming decades,” says Malte Unger, Managing Director of adesso ventures. “Our continued commitment reaffirms the confidence we have in acto’s technology and team. We are convinced of its success and also see great potential for the use of acto in numerous other business areas.”
