adesso supports Schwäbisch Hall to expand its core banking IT system in the credit sector

For over seven million German citizens, Bausparkasse Schwäbisch Hall is the first port of call for home loan savings, building finance, renovation and refurbishment, and for follow-on financing of their construction projects. In the context of a large project to bring its IT systems up to date, Bausparkasse has engaged the IT service provider adesso for a sub-project. adesso will support the bank to develop an SAP-based application for its core banking business as a first-time lender. An initial system release with adesso support has already gone live, with the second release planned for autumn 2021.

Bausparkasse Schwäbisch Hall has opted to transform its core banking system using the established SAP for Banking platform with the SAP CML (Consumer and Mortgage Loans) system module, to support processes related to their its lending business. The IT project is developing a future-proof, SAP-based core banking system as the standard system to replace the building society’s existing host-based infrastructure. A standardised software system configuring processes across the whole life cycle of building society contracts and loans will enable Bausparkasse to improve efficiency.

Schwäbisch Hall has entrusted adesso with a sub-project aiming to develop, tailor and implement the new SAP CML-based credit system. adesso is responsible for all phases of system development, from the technical concept, design and software development and testing through to troubleshooting and warranty provisions. Particular attention is being paid to the module for the ‘Prolongation’ process, which handles the extension of credit contracts.

Mike Kammann is the member of the Board of Directors of Schwäbisch Hall responsible for IT and the business area of construction financing. He explains why Schwäbisch Hall chose adesso as its IT partner for the further development of the building society’s digital systems: “As an experienced service provider to banks and insurance companies, adesso has extensive sector expertise in matters of core product development, as well as project management and implementation of bespoke SAP solutions — just the combination of skills we need for such a complex and demanding large-scale IT project.”

Bausparkasse Schwäbisch Hall’s core banking project is currently one of the largest core banking projects in Germany’s financial services sector to use SAP for banking. Michael Kenfenheuer, CEO of adesso, comments: “We are very proud to be part of such a large flagship project, and to be able to bring our many years of experience to bear in the German financial sector. The solution we are developing will set a new industry standard as an attractive application for building societies and credit institutions.”
