adesso becomes cloud transformation partner for ITSC

adesso, one of the leading IT service providers in German-speaking markets and an expert in cloud transformation projects for public organisations, is supporting ITSC’s cloud migration. Over the next few years, ITSC, the digitalisation partner of the statutory health insurance funds (SHI) in Germany, will migrate the data and workloads of health insurance funds from the on-premises data centre to the cloud with the support of adesso. That makes ITSC one of the first IT service providers in the SHI industry to open up the benefits of the cloud to its customers.

Following the move, the company and its customers will benefit from faster access to innovative and sustainable technologies, needs-based scalability, maximum availability and the highest possible level of IT security. adesso received the go-ahead for the project, which has a budget in euros stretching to seven-digits, in May 2024. The migration should be completed by the end of 2026.

The right partner for a challenging task

ITSC is a specialised service company providing IT infrastructure and digitalisation services to health insurance funds in Germany. It was faced with the question of whether an extensive modernisation of its own data centre made sense or whether the cloud was the better option. After a thorough evaluation, ITSC decided to migrate its own infrastructure to data centres in Germany and France operated by the provider OVHCloud.

There were several reasons why this IT service provider to the statutory health insurance funds chose adesso as its digitalisation support partner. The Dortmund-based IT service provider is a recognised expert for cloud transformation projects in industries that have to comply with strict regulatory requirements. As a partner of OVHCloud, adesso also has the specific application knowledge for the project, as well as in-depth expertise for the SHI industry.

Strategic move to the cloud

In future, the data and workloads of the migrated health insurance funds will be handled by way of various deployment models in the data centres of OVHCloud. The new infrastructure is configured from the provider’s public cloud, private cloud and hosting products so as to ensure that data is stored and processed in accordance with the requirements of the supervisory authorities responsible, such as the Federal Office for Social Security (Bundesamt für Soziale Sicherung, BAS).

“With adesso’s support, we are opening up the benefits of the cloud to our shareholders while complying with all regulatory requirements,” says Björn Börjesson, CIO of ITSC GmbH. “At the same time, we are paving the way for the future. From the cloud, we are able to provide health insurance funds with state-of-the-art technologies and services around the clock, helping to position them in the best possible way vis-à-vis their competitors.”

“Migrating social data to the cloud is a complex endeavour,” says Alwin Penner, Global Head of Cloud at adesso. “For many health insurance funds, the introduction of, say, process automation or artificial intelligence represents a genuine hurdle. The fact that ITSC has hired us demonstrates that we have the necessary expertise and industry knowledge to manage these kinds of migration projects in a very demanding regulatory environment.”
