Process management is currently one of the most pressing organisational con-cerns at companies. Data-based process analysis through process mining is a relatively young field with the potential to fundamentally change how processes are analysed and operationally managed. Particularly in the age of digital trans-formation, with its complex connection of objects on the internet of things (IoT), a flood of process-related data is being collected. The information can only be useful in adding value to business once it has been properly analysed. This proves to be a real challenge for process consultants, who have to understand and analyse an organisation’s existing processes in order to optimise them.
Lana Labs GmbH, a young start-up based in Berlin, specialised in the devel-opment of the LANA Process Mining tool, which adesso identified as a “soft-ware product with great future potential” as part of its market research. It was developed by research associates at the Hasso-Plattner-Institut within the scope of research activities there and spun off in early 2016.
Gregor Schwald is the head of the IT Consulting division at adesso and be-lieves the software has a wide range of possible uses that cut across all eco-nomic sectors. “Process mining is currently a promising area of innovation for our customers. By partnering with Lana Labs on business process manage-ment, we can now offer our customers new approaches,” Schwald says.
Dr Thomas Baier is a managing director for Lana Labs GmbH and, as a pro-cess analyst, he specialises in process mining. The findings from the research he conducted as part of his doctoral studies now form the core of the high-performance solution for process analysis. “We are delighted that a major IT service provider such as adesso is now going to use our solution for its cus-tomer projects,” Baier says.
This partnership also includes an eco-conscious element. For every licensee, ecologically committed Lana Labs GmbH will “adopt” a Magellanic penguin in southern Chile/Patagonia to do its part to improve the habitat of this threatened species on the southern tip of South America.
