IoT cloud infrastructure and service application for energy storage systems

Hoppecke energy storage systems

Project

In the course of digitalisation, HOPPECKE is looking at the possibilities of data collection through IoT and the resulting opportunities. Data is to be collected on batteries from the three product lines Motive Power, Reserve Power and Special Power and centralised in a cloud-based platform.

Highlights

Company-wide IoT platform

The solution created not only serves a single area, but also serves as a central IoT platform for the various products of the individual business units.

Digital services used internally and externally

The development of new, holistic services: Based on the data collection now made possible by the platform, new digital services were created for internal use, but also for individual customer groups.

Large volumes of data

Individual data analyses require the availability of very high-frequency data with a sampling rate of 200 ms in some cases. This results in extensive data per connected device, which is processed in a data lake.

  • Operation and further development of the IoT cloud solution

Founded in 1927 in Brilon, Germany, Accumulatorenwerke HOPPECKE Carl Zoellner & Sohn GmbH deals exclusively in industrial energy storage systems. Its four main business fields are: zero-emission drives (trak), secure power supplies (grid), storage systems for renewables (sun) as well as train and metro systems (rail). Through its INTILION subsidiary that was set up in 2019, the company, which specialises in lead-acid and nickel-cadmium batteries, has expanded its portfolio to include modern lithium-ion storage systems. By doing so, it now also provides stationary storage systems for buffering renewable energy sources, drive storage systems for industrial vehicles such as forklifts, high-voltage systems for train drive units and other heavy-duty applications.
